Stellenbosch is by far the most famous wine region in South Africa. The surrounding mountains offer not only a spectacular panorama but also very good conditions for wine growing. The summers are relatively dry and hot here and the winters are sufficiently rainy. There are a total of 50 different soil types. In addition to the heat and the constant risk of fire, this is one of the greatest challenges for viticulture. However, this soil diversity also allows incredible variation in the cultivation of the vines.
Stellenbosch, a town of 20,000 inhabitants, has its own wine university and is considered the center of South African wine tourism. Stellenbosch is, so to speak, to South Africa like the Napa Valley to California or the Barossa Valley to Australia.
