Count Paolo Marotto knew why he chose this island in 1997 to press the Cataratto IGT and Nero d'Avola IGT here in the future. As an experienced entrepreneur and wine connoisseur, he recognized the appeal of building his Baglio di Pianetto winery in different locations. This consists of the two wineries Baroni in the province of Syracuse and Pianetto in the Palermo area.

Pianetto is 20 km south of Palermo in the mountains. The vines are grown there at 580 to 650 meters above sea level, so far 62 hectares, more are being expanded. Here there are large temperature differences between day and night: hot, dry days and cool nights contribute to intensive ripening of the grapes. The second Baroni winery has completely different microclimatic conditions: accordingly, the soil there is dry and stony. Here, not far from Capo Passero, 77 hectares of vines are cultivated.
