Somerset

The first wine grapes were planted in the Somerset region in the 1800s by European settlers.

The Somerset West winelands near Cape Town have an excellent assortment of vintages, grapes and styles of creation, which make them a delight to the nose and adventure for the palate. The wine region is often referred to as South Africa's premium red wine area. Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are popular wine blends in the Somerset region.

The rich soil of the southern part of the Helderberg mountains are abundant with vineyards. Somerset West wine farms are defintely worth a tour.
