The valley of Tulbah is nestled among three mountain ranges: the Obiqua Mountains to the west, the Winterhoek Mountains to the north and the Witzenberg Mountains to the east. Protected from the heat and excess wind, with water-retaining valley basins and an opening in the southern valley that acts as an open window to let in breezes, Tulbah features a unique assortment of terroirs that yield excellent Syrah.
Rhone-style blends are a natural fit for the pebby, sandy soils. In these wines Shiraz may be blended with Mourvedre, Grenache and Viognier. White grape planting are primarily of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay.
