Kaapzicht

The Kaapzicht Estate is located in the area known as Bottelary, which is considered the best red wine region in Stellenbosch.

An ideal climate and fertile, stony granite soil are the basis for the top quality of the wines that are produced there. A good example of the quality of the wines is the flagship of the house, the Steytler Pinotage, whose 1998 vintage not only won the ABSA Pinotage Competition, but also the 2000 Wine Magazine Pinotage Competition.

The winemaker Dan Steytler, who founded and managed the winery in 1946 together with his brother George, was one of the first to attach particular importance to the terroir in South Africa and to express this in his wines. The estate, which includes around 174 hectares of vineyards, is managed exclusively by the Steytler family. Every member of the Steyter family is involved. The motto here is: “It’s a family business!”.

Kaapzicht was first mentioned under the name Friesland in 1712. It has been owned by the Steytler family since 1946. The estate is named because of the view of Table Mountain and Table Bay. All wines have been bottled independently since 1984. Various wines of different qualities are produced. The trend is clearly towards the exclusive production of top quality. Son Danie Steytler has been running the farm with his wife Carin since 2018.
